Confused about sharara & garara or lehnga & ghagra? Know the difference

We are introduced to new styles everyday which makes it very difficult to get familiar with the style terminology. Some of the garments that look alike but are named differently are as follows.

1. Garara and Sharara

Sharara is a fully flared pant.

Garara is also a variation of sharara but it is fitted till the knees after which the flare starts. The flared and fitted part of the pants is divided by a band.

2. Lehnga and Lancha

Both Lehnga and lancha comprise of flared skirts. The difference lies in the upper wear.

Flared skirt with a short blouse that reveals the waist and back is called a lehnga

Flared skirt with a blouse long enough to cover the waist is called a Lancha. The length of the upperwear may vary from a short kurti to a long ankle length kurti.

3. Kurta and Kurti

The only difference in these two are their lengths.
If the length is short it is called a Kurti. By short length we mean length that reach your waist, thighs or knees.Kurtis are known as Tunics too.

When the length is upto the calf or ankle it is called a Kurta.

4. Palazzo Pants and Wide leg Pants

We get inquired about this a lot from our customers. Here is the much awaited answer.
The basic difference lies in the fit and fabric of the both.
Palazzo Pants are flary and have an illusion of a maxi skirt. The fabric used in Palazzo pants are flowy fabrics like georgette, chiffon, crepe etc

Wide leg Pants have a comfortable and relaxed fit. The thigh circumference and ankle circumference is almost same.

Fabrics used for wide leg Pants are various types of stiff fabrics which include cotton, linen, tweed etc.

5.Ghagra and Lehnga

Both are same but the occasion they are meant for and the fabrics used makes the difference.

Ghagras are worn by women in Northwestern areas of India as a casual wear. They are flary skirts made with comfort fabrics like cotton.

Lehnga skirts are also flared skirts. These are worn on special occasions like weddings. Made with fabrics such as silk, these are heavily embroidered and embellished.
